Over the past year, the Voss Lab at FAU Harbor Branch has been monitoring a restoration project in New Smyrna Beach, FL led by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The project aims to restore the old New Smyrna High School site to its former glory as a coastal salt marsh. We have used our lab's quadcopter technology to follow the project's progress through time with aerial media and photomerged, georeferenced maps. Here, we show some of FWC's projects in the northern Indian River Lagoon, and the process behind creating professional quality maps using drone photos.
Shot with our DJI Phantom Vision 2+ and DJI Inspire 1. The long-awaited OpenROV v2.8 arrived this week and Michael began construction of the main housing and controller board electronics. The kit is supplied with all the raw materials and requires a decent amount of acrylic gluing and soldering. The plan is to complete construction and dry testing through December, and conduct water and pressure tests using FAU Harbor Branch's 40,000 gallons laser test tank and pressure chamber in January.
